There are a number of hotels in Dublin offering cheap, no-frills, accommodation for those on a tight budget, where price is more important than extra facilities such as a spa or room service. They fall into several types or categories.
Some are simply small. Often occupying old townhouses and possibly constrained by preservation orders, they lack the space to provide more than a hotel-standard B+B service. In this category the Bridge House in Temple Bar is well worth considering, as are the Hotel Abbey, Days Inn Talbot Street, Browns Hotel and Isaacs Hotel, all close to O'Connell Street. On the south of the river the Pembroke Townhouse, Harrington Hall, the Jackson Court Hotel and the Camden De Luxe all offer affordable accommodation close to St Stephens Green and Grafton Street.
Back on the north side, the Maldron Hotel Parnell Square is a small boutique hotel that often offers excellent rates, while on the south the Drury Court is a fine small hotel whose special offers can give real value for money.
Many budget hotels such as The Ferryman or The Portobello are located above pubs or nightclubs and may be best suited to the young. But they're also the ideal place for groups looking to party. Others include the Dublin Citi Hotel and the Trinity Adams, both on Dame Street.
There are several large hotels which pitch themselves at the budget tourist market. Of these the Harcourt Hotel, The Kildare Street Hotel, and the Belvedere are also suitable for groups. The Arlington Hotel and its newer sister the Arlington Temple Bar both provide nightly entertainment for tourists, one of the must-see shows in town.
And a few others worth mentioning: The Central Hotel is an old style traditional hotel right beside Grafton Street, Temple Bar and Trinity College; The Ashling is suitable for all types of traveller and just a short LUAS ride from O'Connell Street; and two newer hotels of note, the Park Inn in Smithfield and Jurys Custom House Inn are just a quayside walk to O'Connell Bridge.
