Dublin in Every Season.

Dublin is one of the most colourful and charismatic cities in the world and offers something special for visitors of all interests and persuasions.  As well as the large number of historical attractions, trendy bars and restaurants there is also an exciting festival scene that will delight all age groups.  This event guide will help you to choose from some of the many festivals that Dublin has to offer.

As we know, Ireland is famous for its love of music and the great musicians that it has given to the world.  Each year people flock to Dublin for a variety of music festivals, each one guaranteed to warm all hearts and please all tastes.  The International Dance Festival runs from April 21- May 7 and will be kicking off its 3rd year of stylish and contemporary dancing from all around the globe.  The Heineken Green Energy Festival runs from April 28th –May 1st and features an impressive line-up of both Irish and international acts as well as a street carnival, music seminars, and of course, the notorious ‘Band Challenge'.  In addition to these superb festivals, live music will always be found almost every night in one of the many pubs and live venues across the city.

The Fringe Festival is a multi-cultured celebration of all contemporary art, from theatre, visual arts, dance, live art, mixed media and music.  The Dublin Fringe Festival has, for many years, been a great platform for emerging artists and has always thrilled spectators with its innovative and boundary breaking performances.  The Fringe Festival takes place from September 9th – 24th.

Of course, Ireland’s most famous event is the St. Patrick’s Day Festival.  It’s fair to say, once a quiet religious event with several solemn processions, St. Patrick’s Day has exploded into a full-on week long celebration of everything great about being green!  Each year, hundreds and thousands of people take to the streets to enjoy the huge parade, live music, fireworks and of course the occasional glass of green beer.  Without doubt the liveliest time to visit Dublin!

Other festivals of not that take place annually in Dublin include The James Joyce Festival, otherwise known as Bloomsday, where fans of the great writer congregate in Dublin to celebrate his life with readings, performances, breakfasts, walks, conferences and visits to the pub.  Dublin’s Theatre Festival which takes place from 29th September to 14th October each year is a famous and exciting celebration of all forms of theatre from opera, to tragedy to comedy.  This is another not-to-be-missed event.

Dublin is a city steeped in culture and it prides itself in promoting the one thing that has shaped its existence from the very beginning – arts and entertainment.  If you are visiting Dublin soon, be sure to look out for these or one of the many other festivals that take place in Dublin just about every month.
