The Royal Marine Hotel is a victorian landmark hotel overlooking Dun Laoghaire Harbour (Pronounce it Dun Leery ) which has undergone a lavish EU 50 million refurbishment to bring it up to the latest international hotel standards. The hotel has a fantastic location being situated in the heart of Dun Laoghaire's fashionable shopping area and about 2 minutes walk from the suburban rail station which provides access to Dublin city centre in about than 20 minutes.
Accommodation
The hotel has 227 rooms of which 150 have fine views of Dun Laoghaire Harbour. The bedrooms are beautifully finished in terms of decor and furnishing.
Most of the rooms are much larger than you would expect from this 4 star hotel and indeed, are of a size which in London or Paris would usually be described as a Junior Suite. The beds themselves have "pillow top mattresses" and are very comfortable. The rooms have a fridge, iron, LCD Plasma TV and Broadband Internet Access. Best of all are the spacious bathrooms, which have underfloor heating, decent sized baths as well as luxury Etno bathsalts, shampoo & lotions etc.
Facilities
The breakfast buffet in the Dining Room is well stocked and has a wide variety of fresh fruit and healthy options as well as the traditional hearty Irish cooked breakfast. Thankfully the eggs are cooked to order. The bright lounge area with its large bow windows overlooking the harbour is busy throughout the day with moring coffees and afternoon teas, a pleasantly refined victorian tradition, which sits well with the new 50 million euro upgrade. There is a choice of two relaxing bars, a fine restaurant. The new spa, infinity pool and gym are scheduled to open later in 2007.
Location
The Royal Marine hotel is located on Marine Road in Dun Laoghaire. Dun Laoghaire is a fashionable seaport and victorian town located about 8 miles from Dublin city. The hotel has extensive parking for guests and it takes about 30 minutes to drive to the city centre. The local suburban rail station is just 2 minutes walk from the hotel and there is a high frequency of trains to the city which is about 20 minutes by train. The town of Dun Laoghaire itself has excellent shopping facilities, great pubs and restaurants as well as a beautiful scenic views along the sea wall and around the harbour. In overall terms if you are coming as a visitor to Dublin, you wont find better. Highly recommended!
